Guidelines on making approximately 1 gallon of apple cider vinegar.

5 large apples of your choice or scraps of 10 apples

Filtered water

1 cup raw, local honey or organic cane sugar

1 wide mouth gallon glass jar.

Cheesecloth or floursack cloth.

Large rubber band

Before you can make your raw apple cider vinegar, you must first make hard apple cider. The alcohol in the hard cider is what transforms via fermentation into acetic acid, which is the beneficial organic compound that gives apple cider vinegar its sour taste.
Wash the apples and coarsely chop into pieces no smaller than 1 inch. Cores, stems and seeds may be included.

Put the chopped apples into a 1 gallon, clean, wide mouth, glass jar. Please do not brew your apple cider vinegar in

stainless steel pots , as the acidic vinegar will causing leaching of heavy metals such as carcinogenic nickel.

The chopped apples should at least fill half the container and maybe a bit more. If at least half the container is not filled, add additional apple scraps until you achieve this level as a minimum.

Pour in room temperature filtered water until the chopped apples are completely covered and the container is just about full leaving a couple of inches at the top.

Stir in the raw honey or cane sugar until fully dissolved.

Cover the top of the glass jar with cheesecloth, a thin white dishtowel or floursack cloth and secure with a large rubber band.

Leave on the counter for about 1-2 weeks, gently mixing once or twice a day. Bubbles will begin to form as the sugar ferments into alcohol. You will smell this happening.

When the apple scraps no longer float and sink to the bottom of the jar after approximately one week, the hard apple cider is ready. If for some reason, the apple pieces still do not sink to the bottom after 2 weeks but the mixture smells alcoholic, proceed to the next step anyway.

Strain out the apple scraps and pour the hard apple cider into a fresh 1 gallon glass jar or smaller sized mason jars of your choosing.

Cover with a fresh piece of cheesecloth and secure with a rubberband.

Leave on the counter in an out of the way spot for an additional 3-4 weeks to allow the alcohol to transform into acetic acid by the action of acetic acid bacteria  A small amount of sediment on the bottom is normal. In addition, a mother culture will form on top

Taste your raw apple cider vinegar to determine if it is ready starting after 3 weeks. If it has the right level of vinegar taste for you, strain it one more time and store in clean, glass mason jars or jugs. If after 4 weeks, the taste still isn’t quite strong enough, leave it for another week and try again. If you accidentally leave it too long and the taste is too strong, just strain and dilute with some water to a level of acidity that pleases you.

Use as desired and store in the pantry out of direct sunlight.

Raw apple cider vinegar doesn’t go bad, but if you leave it for a long time, another mother culture will likely form on top. This is fine, just strain it again if desired and dilute with a bit of water if the taste has become too strong.
Hint: Your homemade batch of apple cider vinegar can be used not only in the kitchen, but also as a vinegar bath (2 cups per tubful) to greatly aid detoxification.

It can also be used to make a vinegar compress for sprains and bruises. This is what people used before ice was readily available, and raw vinegar works extremely well too!

Your skin type can change over time. For example, younger people are more likely than older people to have a normal skin type.

  1. WATER CONTENT , which affects your skin’s comfort and elasticity.
  2. OIL (LIPID ) CONTENT , which affect ur skin’s softness .

  3. Sensitivity level.

  1. NORMAL SKIN : Not too dry, not too oily. It has no or few imperfections, no severe sensitivity, barely visible pores, a radiant complexion.
  2. DRY SKIN : Almost visible pores, dull, rough complexion, red patches, less elasticity and more visible lines. When expose to drying factors, skin can crack, peel or become itchy, irritated or inflamed. If ur skin is dry, it can become rough and scaly, especially at the backs of ur hands, arms and legs.

  3. OILY SKIN : Enlarge pores, dull or shiny and thick complexion, black heads, pimples or other blemishes.

  4. COMBINATION SKIN : can be dry or normal in some areas and oily else where such as T-zone (nose, forehead and chin). It can produce overly dilated pores, black heads and shiny skin.

1) DEXFOLIATION- the art of not exfoliating regularly . Exfoliation opens the skin pores to allow penetration of ur skin care products.

2) IMPROPER APPLICATION. Try to use it right after a proper bath. Don’t just take a quick shower, ensure that dirt, sweat and grime that clog the skin pores are removed as you bathe so your cream really penetrates. Also, don’t mop up all the water from your skin after bathing, leaving some water on your skin allows the cream to absorb better.

3) SUN EXPOSURE. Too much exposure to the sun’s rays puts alot of strain on the skin and will hinder the effects of your cream from being visible, make sure your cream has adequate sun protection factor(SPF) of at least 15.

4) YOUR DIET. What are you stuffing up on? Eating right (fruits and vegetables and staying away from unnatural sugar) boosts your skin’s radiance from within. Oranges and apples especially, are loaded with powerful and natural anti-oxidants that helps prevent your skin’s collagen from breaking down.

5) IMPATIENCE. Creams that boasts of ‘instant results’ usually have harsh chemical components. It usually takes time for your skin to adjust and respond to the products. Try more natural based products instead and stop changing creams constantly.

6) BATHROOM ROUTINE. Please use a gentle cleanser or a beauty bar for your face instead of the regular bar soaps and try to use lukewarm water instead of cold water. It helps to keep your skin’s protective layer from being stripped away.

HIV/AIDS, the mindset

 By Evan

Human immunodeficiency virus is no longer news to an average adult, at a point  I thought that the disease exist no longer and I believe not to be alone on this thought but with what we see in news few days with Nigeria ranking the second largest on HIV outbreak I can now be termed wrong. HIV is a disease for special kind of people, it respects no class or age, what I mean by special kind of people is that the disease is designed for people who respects not their body though am not oblivious of the fact that there are some innocent people who become victims due to negligence, carelessness or ignorance. HIV virus first used in 1986 is a retrovirus that infects and destroy body system causing marked reduction of T cells of the immune system. HIV disease can be controlled and managed, the control of this disease is the duty of you and I whether you’re HIV positive or negative, whether you’re atheist, Christian or Muslim.

HIV is a virus that weakens the immune system exposing the body system to danger of any available disease that flies in the air. When the virus successfully kills the immune system it can now be said that a person is suffering from AIDS Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome first used in 1982 which happens to be a disease of human immune system characterized by vulnerability of body system to any disease that pass by as the immune system has already be weakened, at this stage any disease no matter how minor can easily affect and kill the victim.

The purpose of this article is not really just to talk about HIV and AIDS but to talk about our behavior and mindset towards it. This is a virus and being tested positive of this particular virus does not guarantee your visit to hell and being tested negative of this virus does not also guarantee your visit to heaven. A video some time ago was on circulation on social media where a beautiful young lady openly confessed being positive and how it feels uncomfortable to be living on drugs on that note she advised those who are negative to remain negative while she advised those who tested positive of the virus to always take good care of their selves by sticking to proper and right medication that manages the virus. On this note is becoming obvious that contracting the virus is not the end of the world, in life we are all bound to make mistakes, making the mistake is not a problem but what becomes one is sticking to the mistake and wallowing in it. A person who has this virus can live the same number of years he has been destined to live so long as the person is taking proper care of himself with good medication and attention, it is now believed that malaria kills faster than HIV, so can you see that HIV is really not a problem when tested positive but the attitude of the person who tested positive and the attitude of people around him.

If you’ve been tested positive please desist from infecting others with it, in this way you save yourself the harm of contracting more virus and diseases as HIV is not the only STD. many years ago a beautiful young woman tested positive and when the sad news was given to her, instead of having sober reflection on her life, she vowed to share the virus to as much people as she can before dying…Is her attitude right before humanity? When you go about causing harm for people, you’re deeply creating and causing more harm for yourself in all spheres. Having read the story of this young woman I need not to tell you who is still free of the virus to be careful and give it all you can not to entangle yourself sexually with everyone you come across as HIV no dey show for face. The amazing thing is that the chances of contracting this virus are well known and can be avoided.

  1. Avoid sexual contact in premarital and extramarital affairs, be faithful to your spouse. If a single fellow can afford to sleep with you outside marriage what guarantee you that he/she will not sleep with another?
  2. Blood should be screened thoroughly at different intervals before transfusion.
  3. Sterilize sharp objects before use if possible stick to new ones.
  4. As a health worker always wear your gloves (original quality please not this fake am seeing around)
  5. Objects that get in contact with body fluid should be personalized.
  6. Know your HIV status, get tested to know where you stand and if one positive side get immediate medical attention and commence normal sustenance process.

Finally remember HIV and AIDS does not show on the face please and the best remedy in life is prevention which leads to the popular saying prevention is better than cure. It is necessary not segregate against people living with HIV because they need love, and friendship from people around them as no man is an Ireland. Please if you’re living with aids be sure to inform your close friends as that will assist your relationship and enable you both to support each other the most. Always have it at the back of your mind that some HIV patients are victims of circumstance and require much love than you can imagine. Please if you have contributions to make kindly share with is using the comment box below.

Nigeria ranks the second largest HIV epidemic 2016 with over 196,000 adolescents

By Loveline Priceless

Nigeria had the second largest HIV epidemic in 2016, with over 196,000 adolescents representing 10 percent of the global burden said to be living with HIV/AIDS, according to a World Health Report.
The report was given by Mrs Esther Samuel, The Chief Matron, Lagos State Ministry of Health, at a programme by a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) Lisa Demi Project, in Lagos.
According to NAN’s report, Lisa Demi Project initiated in the U.K., seeks to address the sexual health issues through Talks, Counselling and Entertainment among others.
The programme, held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos on Thursday, and title “ Let’s Talk about Our Sexual Health’’, is targeted at teenagers between the ages 14 to 24.
Speaking on the dangers of unrestrained sexual activities among the youths, Samuel said the statistics from the health sector remained a concern.
“Nigeria has the second largest HIV epidemic. About 3.2 million people Nigerians were living with HIV in 2016.
“In Nigeria, over 196,000 adolescents, representing 10 per cent of the global burden, are said to be living with HIV/AIDS.
“Also, 230,000 babies were born by girls aged 15 to 19 in 2015. This is a frightening report. However, 1 million STIs are acquired every day,’’ she said.
Relaying the statistics further, Samuel said that the world was groaning under the heavy burden of sexually transmitted diseases.
“Each year, there are estimated 357 million new infections, while globally more than 2 million 10 to 19-year-olds are living with HIV.
“About one in seven of all new HIV infections occur during adolescence. In the U.S., 21 per cent of the adolescents had drunk alcohol or used drugs before last sexual intercourse.
“About 85 per cent of these youths live in developing countries, while we also have 32 per cent of Nigerian population as youths which half (48.6 per cent) of adolescents aged 15 to 19 are sexually active.
“About 1 in 5 of sexually active females and 1 in 12 sexually active males had already engaged in sexual intercourse by the age of 15,’’ she said.
Samuel said that the alarming statistics should call for urgent action so as not to lose the bulk of the productive population to untreatable diseases such as STDs and STIs.
“These are real figures which should bring something to our mind and it is no other thing than fear, and a call to action, especially among our youths.
“Our youths must be cautioned to refrain and advise. They all need to be guided not to waste their lives on what is worth waiting for.
“The youths should start to avoid something they call a little thing that does not matter but are sexual behaviours such as kissing, keeping secret friendships and others.
“We should focus on health education and STI prevention through school seminars, clubs, social media, parents, peer groups and proper counselling when STDs are detected early,’’ she said
